Huntington's disease

Huntington's disease is a genetic disorder  that affects muscle coordination and leads to conitive decline and  dementina.  This disease is the most common genetic cause of abnormal involuntary writhing movements called chorea and is much more common in people of Western European descent than in those from Asia or Africa. This disease is caused by autosomal dominant mutation. Physical symptoms of Huntingtion's disease begins at any age. If both parents have this disease, then all children will get it.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis is a immune disorder that affects the spinal cord, and brain. This effects the ability for the spinal cord and the brain to communicate with one another. People who suffer from multiple sclerosis have thier immune system attack the nerves that send impulses  back and forth. Once those nerves are damaged, the brain and spinal cord can no longer communicate.

What are mental disorders?

Mental Disorders are diseases of the mind. Mental disorders are also defined as health conditions that are characterized as alterations of thinking, behavior, and mood.  Mental illnesses affect people from all nation and social classes. 40% of Americans will experince a mental disorder at some point in thier lives. 3% of those people will experince a mental disorder that will require hosplitization.  Many people with mental disorders will refuse to seek treatment. There are different types of mental disorders. You will read about those as the weeks go on.
