Panic diosrder

Panic disorder is an anxiety and mental disorder recurring by severe panic attacks. This includes significant behavior changes. These may last for more than a month and people with this disorder worry about having more attacks. Panic disorders cannot be predicted. The most common symptom is having intense epsiodes of extreme anxiety. Thses may last from one to twenty minutes. However , attacks can roll one after the other. Other symptoms include rapid heartbeat, dizziness, and uncontrolable fear.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a mental disorder that has an effect on how our brain reads and understands words. The most common signs of dyslexia are reading and writing problems. I  order to find if a child has dislxia, he or she must be seen by a doctor. A child can be called dyslexic if they cannot read or write well. Children with dyslexia can be helped. They can be helped by teachers to break down words into different sounds. This helps them with their reading and writing.

Obsessive compulsive disorder

Obessive compulsive disorder, often called OCD, is a mental disorder that effects people in a way that feels like they have to do a task in a particular order, or they think something bad will happen.  People who suffer from OCD suffer from major anxiety.  They often obsess about things that are not there.  Thier obsessions are often repetitive.  Most people with OCD can be both obsessive and compulsive, but people experince one or the other. The symptoms fade overtime. But the symptoms will get worse in times of stress.

Autism

Autism is a developmental disorder thast affects the development of the brain.  Autism usually appears in the first 3 years of life.  It affects 1 in 250 births.  Autism appeares more in boys. As of 2011, the cause of autism is unknown. Unfortunatley, there is currently no treatment for autism.

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder ( also known as ADHD) is a neurlogically based symdrome characterized by the three types of behavior : hyperactivity, distractablity, and impulsivity. ADHD is diagnosed before the child is seven years old. This is often accompanied by a learning disorder. ADHD is a diagnosis applied to children and adults who display certain chracterstic behaviors over a long period of time. The behaviors must be exccesive. 

Innative behavior is when the person is distracted by irelvant sights and inablilty to complete certain tasks.

Signs of inattenion are

• Becoming easily distracted by irrelevant sights and sounds
• Rarely following instructions carefully and completly
• Blurting out answers before hearing the whole question

 People who are impulsive seem unable to thonk before they act. People who are hyperactive are intenselesy restless. They can't sit still.

• 1 in 4 children who have ADHD have a parent who has or has had ADHD
• In 10% of the cases, the disorder can persist into adulthood

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is  the most chronic and disabling of mental disorders.  It is considered a severe mental disorder. This is associated with abnormalties of  the brain structure, disorganized speech and behavior, and hallucinations. The symptoms of schizophrenia can appear at any time. The symptoms most likely appear when a person is around eight years old. Schizophrenia that appears after age 45 is considered late-onset schizophrenia. About 1%-2% of cases are diagnosed in patients over 80.

Kleptomania

Kleptomania is an irresistable urge to steal items of value. People with this mental disorder are naturally compelled to steal things. But these people steal objects that have limited or no vaule such as pens, pencils, paper clips, and tape.  Some kleptomanincas are not aware that they committed theft. People with this mental disorder are most likely to be paranoid. Kleptomania can occur after a traumatic accident or brain surgery.

Huntington's disease

Huntington's disease is a genetic disorder  that affects muscle coordination and leads to conitive decline and  dementina.  This disease is the most common genetic cause of abnormal involuntary writhing movements called chorea and is much more common in people of Western European descent than in those from Asia or Africa. This disease is caused by autosomal dominant mutation. Physical symptoms of Huntingtion's disease begins at any age. If both parents have this disease, then all children will get it.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis is a immune disorder that affects the spinal cord, and brain. This effects the ability for the spinal cord and the brain to communicate with one another. People who suffer from multiple sclerosis have thier immune system attack the nerves that send impulses  back and forth. Once those nerves are damaged, the brain and spinal cord can no longer communicate.

What are mental disorders?

Mental Disorders are diseases of the mind. Mental disorders are also defined as health conditions that are characterized as alterations of thinking, behavior, and mood.  Mental illnesses affect people from all nation and social classes. 40% of Americans will experince a mental disorder at some point in thier lives. 3% of those people will experince a mental disorder that will require hosplitization.  Many people with mental disorders will refuse to seek treatment. There are different types of mental disorders. You will read about those as the weeks go on.
